About Dating Abuse

What is Dating Abuse?

47% of 13-18 year olds who have been in relationships reported that they have personally been victimized by controlling behaviors from a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Dating abuse is a pattern of behaviors used to gain power and control over a dating partner. Behaviors can include physical, sexual, emotional, and/or verbal abuse. The abuse can happen over time and may continue to get worse. Dating abuse can happen to anyone of any age, race, class, education level, or religion, and it also occurs in same-sex relationships.

Dating abuse is not only a serious problem for adults, but teens and young adults experience control and abuse in relationships as well.
